Chapter 34: The Call of the Tomb
Chapter 34: The Call of the Tomb
Her heartbeat quickened, as if she could hear the voice inside her heart whispering, "This place is definitely not simple." Li Ming beside her seemed a little nervous, holding a flashlight in his hand, and the beam of light wandered in the dark tomb passage, reflecting the mottled walls and the occasional flashing ancient runes.
"Sister Fang, do you really want to go in?" Li Ming asked cautiously, his eyes wandering around, as if ready to deal with sudden danger at any time.
"Of course, I don't want to miss any discovery." Chen Fang answered firmly, with a glimmer of exploration in her eyes. She knew that there might be countless secrets hidden here, waiting for her to uncover.
“But this place looks a bit… weird.” Li Ming’s voice dropped, as if he was uneasy about their decision.
"I understand your concerns, but since we are already here, why don't we find out together?" Chen Fang smiled slightly, trying to ease Li Ming's nervousness. She turned and walked into the darkness of the ancient tomb, the beam of the flashlight drawing a bright track in front of her.
The two walked into the tomb carefully. The air around them seemed to become heavy and stagnant. The ancient patterns carved on the walls shone faintly under the light, as if telling ancient stories.
"Look, there are words here." Li Ming pointed to a carving and said excitedly, "This seems to be ancient writing!"
Chen Fang took a closer look. Although the handwriting was blurry, she could vaguely make out a few words: "Guardian, Eternal." Her heart was shocked, and she vaguely felt that the origin of this ancient tomb was not simple.
"Should we record it?" Li Ming took out his cell phone and prepared to take a photo.
"Wait a minute." Chen Fang raised her hand to stop him, frowning slightly, "The atmosphere here makes me feel uneasy. The phone might attract something."
Li Ming nodded. Although he was puzzled, he put away his phone. The two continued forward. The tomb passage gradually became wider, and some strange decorations began to appear on the surrounding walls, as if they were the remains of some kind of ritual.
"What is this?" Li Ming pointed to a circular pattern on the ground. There was a small hole in the middle of the pattern and complex patterns around it.
"It looks like some kind of sacrificial formation." Chen Fang squatted down and observed carefully, with a vague ominous premonition in his heart. "Be careful, Li Ming, don't step on this pattern."
At this moment, a low humming sound suddenly came from all around, as if something was awakening. The two looked at each other and their faces turned pale.
"Should we...should we go back?" Li Ming's voice trembled and fear appeared in his eyes.
"No, we can't retreat." Chen Fang gritted her teeth and insisted, "We must find out what happened here."
As she became more determined, the buzzing sound became clearer, as if calling them. Chen Fang took a deep breath, mustered up her courage, and walked forward. Li Ming followed closely behind. Although he was filled with fear, he was more afraid of losing this opportunity to explore.
After passing through a long corridor, they finally arrived at a wide hall. In the center of the hall was a huge stone tablet with intricate patterns carved on it, emitting a faint light. Around the stone tablet were several skeletons, as if guarding something.
"This...is this an ancient altar?" Li Ming stammered, his eyes wandering between the bones and the stone tablet.
"It looks like it." Chen Fang slowly approached the stone tablet, reached out and gently touched the carvings on it, feeling a warm energy flowing through her fingertips. She was shocked and seemed to understand something.
"Sister Fang, what are you doing?" Li Ming hurriedly grabbed her hand, "Don't touch that!"
"I feel it's calling me." Chen Fang's voice was low and firm. "There is something I need to know here."
At this moment, the stone tablet emitted a dazzling light, illuminating the entire hall. Li Ming stepped back in horror, his eyes full of disbelief.
"You...what are you doing?!" Li Ming's voice almost screamed.
"I don't know, but I want to know the truth." Chen Fang closed his eyes, silently chanted the ancient spell in his heart, and felt the changes around him.
As she chanted, the light became stronger, as if the entire ancient tomb was responding to her call. Suddenly, pictures appeared on the stone tablet, and ancient sacrificial rituals, lost civilizations, and the souls that once guarded here emerged in her mind.
"Sister Fang, stop now!" Li Ming shouted anxiously, but it was too late.
"I can feel its power!" Chen Fang's voice was filled with enthusiasm. "This is a huge secret, waiting for us to uncover it!"
"Did you hear anything?" Zhang Xiao asked in a low voice, his eyes scanning around as if looking for potential threats.
"Nothing, I think it's very quiet here." Li Ming looked up, his eyes wandering across the dim tomb passage, but he felt a little uneasy in his heart. He held the flashlight tightly in his hand, and the beam of light swayed on the wall, illuminating the blurry murals.
"Look! These murals are so beautiful!" Wang Wei pointed excitedly at a mural depicting an ancient sacrificial scene, his face full of curiosity. "The clothes these people are wearing seem to be the style of the Zhou Dynasty."
"How do you know?" Zhang Xiao asked curiously, his eyes flashing with admiration for Wang Wei's knowledge.
"I interned in a museum for a while and saw some similar artifacts." Wang Wei answered proudly, then squatted down and carefully observed the details of the mural. "Look, the details here are handled very well, especially the offerings, which seem to be used to pray for a good harvest."
"You're right. Every stroke here is full of ancient wisdom." Li Ming nodded, and his awe for these ancient cultures deepened. He continued to walk forward, and the beam of the flashlight swept across the wall, discovering some blurred words. "What are these words?"
"Ancient seal script." Wang Wei leaned forward, his eyes lit up. "This is an ancient script that records the history and legends of the time."
"Can you understand it?" Zhang Xiao was a little skeptical. After all, the complexity of ancient seal script was daunting.
"Let me try." Wang Wei frowned slightly and analyzed the words carefully. "This passage probably tells a story about the relationship between the king and the gods, and mentions a hero named 'Son of Heaven'."
"Hero? Sounds interesting." Li Ming's curiosity was aroused, and he thought to himself, perhaps this is the significance of their expedition.
As they went deeper, the tomb passage became narrower and the air around them became humid. More murals appeared on the walls, depicting ancient wars and peace, vividly and shockingly.
"This place really is like a time tunnel, taking us back thousands of years ago." Zhang Xiao exclaimed with excitement in his eyes.
"Yes, the way of life of the ancients was completely different from ours." Li Ming said softly, his yearning for ancient civilization becoming stronger. He suddenly stopped and saw a half-open stone door in front of him, with a faint light coming through the crack.
"Let's go take a look at that door," Wang Wei suggested, with a passion for adventure in his eyes.
"Are you sure? We don't know what's in there." Zhang Xiao hesitated, and the fear of the unknown began to spread in his heart.
"It's okay, let's be careful." Li Ming encouraged, his eyes firm. So the three of them slowly walked towards the stone door, their hearts beating faster, anticipation and nervousness intertwined.
After pushing open the stone door, they were stunned by the scene in front of them. A spacious tomb appeared in front of them, surrounded by various cultural relics, glittering golden utensils, exquisite pottery, and some statues that seemed to be used for sacrifice.
"It's so beautiful!" Zhang Xiao couldn't help but exclaim, his eyes wandering over these cultural relics, as if he was in a dream world.
"We must record them, these are priceless treasures." Li Ming quickly took out his camera and started taking pictures. He knew that there were countless histories and stories behind these cultural relics.
"Wait a minute!" Wang Wei suddenly shouted, pointing to a corner. "What is that?"
They turned around and saw a huge stone tablet covered with densely packed words, which seemed to be telling some ancient secret.
"This may be the key to our expedition." Li Ming's heart was filled with excitement. "We must study this stone tablet carefully."
"Let me try." Wang Wei walked forward and carefully observed the words on the stone tablet, muttering to himself. "There are many rare characters here. I need time to decipher them."
"I'll be on guard here, you guys just try to be careful." Zhang Xiao looked around, and although his heart was filled with excitement, he did not forget to remain vigilant.
Time passed quietly as they concentrated, and Wang Wei's frown gradually relaxed. "I think I understand now. This records the life of an ancient king who once unified many tribes and led the people to prosperity."
"It's incredible!" Li Ming exclaimed, "We can actually get in touch with such important history."
"Unfortunately, there may be more secrets hidden behind these cultural relics." Wang Wei sighed, his eyes flashing with a desire for the unknown.
At this moment, a low echo came from the depths of the tomb, as if something was quietly approaching. The three of them looked at each other, and at the same time, they had an uneasy premonition.
"Let's go!" Zhang Xiao said in a low voice, with a nervous look in his eyes.
