Chapter 151: Calamity

Ji Meiqing glanced at him. "Then I'll teach you a lesson. You shouldn't be angry, right?"

"As long as no one is killed, it's fine." Lu Yu said indifferently, then picked her up again. "To be honest, I don't feel comfortable seeing you hanging out with Li Mingcheng all the time these past few days."

"What nonsense!" she rolled her eyes. "That's called discussing business. Didn't I hand over the management of things here to you? Why are you getting involved again?"

“You can’t come out too early. Their main concern right now is the murder case, and you and she will be implicated.” Lu Yu explained, but his gaze kept lingering on her. “You haven’t had a proper rest these past few days. Go get some sleep, and you’ll feel better tomorrow.”

Ji Meiqing's thoughts were still focused on the Ji family. "If we wiped out the entire Ji family, they probably wouldn't agree. Filial piety and righteousness in this world are truly difficult to understand."

“If you want, we can rebel together, but you need to rest now.” He carried her to the bed and covered her with a blanket. He cared for her like a baby, his gaze lingering on her face before finally asking with a smile, “Are you aroused?”

"It moved." He said seriously, with a hint of grievance, "But you didn't want to."

"That's true." She thought about it carefully for a moment. "Once we're done with these next few days, we can finally get some rest."

"News has come from the capital that the princess is getting married in a few days. The whole country is celebrating, but I'm afraid something bad is going to happen here," Lu Yu suddenly said.

Ji Meiqing was taken aback. Just moments before, they had said they needed to rest, but now they were talking again. She looked at Lu Yu and cautiously guessed, "Is it Xun Hua?"

"It's possible, it's possible. It's just a rumor that a young lady has been named Princess Yong'an and is about to be married off to a foreign land. She will be married off directly when those barbarians arrive."

"I hope not," she said softly. If Xun Hua left, she would lose her backer. Now all the merchants in the city knew that she had Princess Xun Hua behind her, but if Princess Xun Hua was gone, they would probably lose their protection.

"Get some rest." He gently patted her forehead, then blew out the bedside lamp before going to his desk.

Ji Meiqing sat up. "Aren't you going to rest?"

"There's still one engineering drawing that hasn't been finished by the day. You should rest first, I'll come over later."

Ji Meiqing was somewhat disappointed, but it wasn't too bad; she'd just fall asleep first. She wasn't worried about Lu Yu coming up, since she wouldn't notice anyway.

He brewed himself a cup of tea and placed it beside him, staring intently at the pattern on it. After a while, he picked up a red pen and began to sketch it out.

With the whole picture clear, Lu Yu calmly finished his work and then casually tossed the drawing aside in the drawing tube.

It wasn't too early or too late; the cool moonlight had already risen a bit, making it seem even colder. He paused for a moment before turning over and getting into bed. Perhaps sensing the chill, Ji Meiqing subconsciously shrank back.

Lu Yu was taken aback by her reaction and didn't know what to do.

However, once she warmed up, she moved closer again. Lu Yu was both amused and exasperated by her behavior, and circulated his internal energy to heat up his body.

Ji Meiqing snuggled against the pillow and obediently came over, wrapping her arms around his waist. Lu Yu was very pleased with this, so he carefully lay down and turned to hold her as they fell asleep.

It wasn't too early or too late when she got up. She saw a foggy sky, so gray that not a single cloud could be seen. Ji Meiqing stretched and continued to lean against the soft and comfortable big rock.

This thing woke Lu Yu up instantly. Looking at the person in front of him, he took a deep breath, afraid of breaking this beautiful fairyland.

He didn't want to break the agreement, but he had many things to take care of outside, and they had agreed to meet at noon.

Everything was done as Ji Meiqing had instructed. There were white coats and some utensils. Although it was unclear what she was going to do, it was roughly similar to refining alcohol.

The items have arrived, but the house is still in the planning stages, which is a bit awkward.

Lu Yu found a few burly men and had them move all the wood to the backyard and pile it up. The rest of the work would be done once the blueprints were finished.

However, Ji Meiqing requested that the new winery be made of steel. The problem then becomes how to use that steel for the walls.

Ji Meiqing was following the Ji family's affairs. She had bribed a few people in the government so she could hear a lot of new information all the time. However, she heard that Qian Shi did not suffer any losses in prison. On the contrary, she was being fawned over because of her status.

Her three meals a day, and even the food she eats, are still being served according to the old standards, which is quite a bargain for her. She's probably still feeling smug about it.

That night, Lu Yu returned from outside, holding the account book in his hand, and handed it directly to Ji Meiqing.

"That was fast." She touched the book cover before opening it. There were marks on the ledger, marks unique to the Qian family.

After casually flipping through the entire document and confirming that it was real, she excitedly hugged Lu Yu and spun him around.

Lu Yu didn't shake her off, just staring straight at her. Ji Meiqing only realized what was happening when he was staring at her like that.

"Is there something on my face?" She let go of her hand, ran to the side and carefully looked at herself in the mirror. Only when she was sure there was nothing on her face did she go about her business, and the two continued their sweet and affectionate conversation.

Lu Yu put his arm around her waist to prevent her from falling, and asked, "Should we write her a letter?"

“Xunhua?” Ji Meiqing took a step back. “No need for now, we can handle things here.”

"Then let's leave it at that for now."

Ji Meiqing, however, was somewhat displeased. "If you want to write, just write it with her directly. Why do you need to ask me?"

"Xunhua's involvement is essential in this matter. Without her, we've already lost the second half."

Ji Meiqing glared at him, then grumbled and left. Lu Yu smiled wryly; she finally understood what jealousy felt like.

As the weather gradually turned colder, families began preparing charcoal for fires. Black coal became particularly sought after, with a pound of silver charcoal fetching six taels of silver. Consequently, the peddlers prospered during this period.

There was no news of Qian being put in jail, and the government did not notify when the case would be opened; they all seemed to be stalling for time.

Clearly, both Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu saw through the trickery involved, but they didn't know what to do. As the saying goes, "The common people can't fight against the officials."

With no hope of getting the money back, Ji Meiqing sighed helplessly before returning to her room.
