Chapter 199 The Final Quarrel

Dai You and Jiang Di, along with five others, huddled together to make plans, then picked up face towels and wrapped them around their faces.

Jiang Di looked at Wang Xiang behind her and said, "You shouldn't go. All you ever do is use an abacus. This job isn't for you."

Wang Xiang shook her head. "I have to go."

"Why?" Jiang Di asked, puzzled. "You've never done anything like this before. What if you get injured? How am I supposed to explain it to my sister-in-law?"

Wang Xiang looked at Dai You and said, "I made a mistake before, and now I want to make amends."

Jiang Di, unaware of the cryptic conversation between him and Dai You, looked at Dai You curiously.

Dai You pretended not to know anything, and didn't say anything or look at them.

Jiang Di didn't press Wang Xiang, "Well... okay, be careful later, and run if you can't handle it."

"Okay, I'll handle it as best I can and won't cause you any trouble," Wang Xiang nodded.

They moved slowly toward where Xia Lanyue had stopped, trying not to make a sound, and stopped about ten meters away from their resting place.

Coincidentally, Xia Yao and Xia Lanyue came into their view.

The two embraced, their silhouettes flickering in the darkness as the campfire cast their shadows.

Everyone looked at Dai You in unison. It was too dark to see Dai You's face clearly, but they could see his furrowed brows.

Dai You waved to Jiang Di and the others, signaling them to move forward.

The group quietly moved towards Xia Lanyue's direction.

But even with their best efforts, they couldn't prevent a mistake. Jiang Di stepped on a branch, making a sound that attracted the attention of Steward Zhang and the others.

Steward Zhang and the servants all looked towards Dai You and his group.

Seeing that the situation was not good, Dai You shouted, "Quickly take the men and leave!" Then the group stopped hiding and ran towards Xia Lanyue's direction.

Xia Lanyue heard footsteps coming from the bushes. As soon as she looked over, she saw several masked men rushing out. Before she could see them clearly, Xia Yao pulled her over and shielded her behind him.

Dai You rushed up, shoved Xia Yao aside, grabbed Xia Lanyue, and ran into the bushes.

Xia Yao was suddenly pushed and lost his balance, falling to the ground.

Xia Lanyue was pulled and dragged deeper into the bushes.

Seeing this, Butler Zhang called out, "Dai You, I know it's you, stop now!"

Hearing this, Xia Lanyue carefully observed the newcomer. Judging from his figure, it was indeed Dai You, and the people beside him seemed to be Jiang Di and the others. Xia Lanyue, who had been struggling, gave up and let Dai You lead her forward.

Xia Lanyue was surprised that Dai You had returned and scolded him, "Why are you back again? It's so dangerous here."

Dai You didn't answer, focusing only on the road beneath his feet.

Xia Lanyue was already physically weak, and now, not long after her miscarriage, she was experiencing cramping pain in her abdomen, forcing her to stop and pull her hand away.

Dai You stopped, turned around and pulled her, "What are you doing? Do you really want to go back? Don't be silly, there are some of my women here, come with me."

Xia Lanyue was taken aback. Although she wasn't sure about the grudge between her and her stepmother, judging from Dai You's tone, it seemed like it would be detrimental to her. However, Xia Lanyue wouldn't be able to run far with Dai You, so she simply shook off his hand and said, "I can't walk anymore, you guys go quickly," clutching her stomach.

Dai You suddenly realized, "Oh dear, I forgot, you're pregnant. I'll carry you on my back." He bent down and squatted in front of Xia Lanyue.

Looking at Dai You in front of her, Xia Lanyue realized that things couldn't go on like this. If she continued to thwart Dai You's hopes, she would only drag him down. So she ruthlessly pushed him down and said, "I told you, I'm not leaving. Wherever Xia Yao is, I'll be there. You should leave now! I don't want to see you again."

After Xia Lanyue finished speaking, she turned and walked in the opposite direction.

Dai You stood up, looking sadly at Xia Lanyue, not knowing what to say.

In the distance, the light of torches and the sound of rustling footsteps could be seen, indicating that Steward Zhang was arriving with his servants.

Jiang Di came over and grabbed Xia Lanyue, "Dai Xiyue, how can you talk to Dai You like that? You have no conscience. Everyone risked their lives to save you, and you... I really misjudged you." After saying that, Jiang Di shook off Xia Lanyue's arm.

"Jiang Di," Wang Xiang called out, "come here."

Jiang Di walked angrily toward Wang Xiang.

Wang Xiang reminded Dai You, "Brother Dai, we have to go. I know you're in a difficult position, but if they catch up, we won't get the better of them. Since Miss Dai has already made her choice, we should leave."

Dai You looked at Xia Lanyue with reluctance, as if he hadn't heard Wang Xiang's words.

Xia Lanyue had her back to them, and although she couldn't see them, she was just as reluctant to part.

But hearing the approaching footsteps, she didn't dare to delay. She turned around and pushed Dai You, saying, "Go on, don't look for me anymore. Live your own life."

Wang Xiang glanced at the people rushing towards them, then pulled Dai You up, "Let's go, there won't be any time if we don't leave now."

Dai You was pulled away by Jiang Di and the others and walked backward. Reluctantly, Dai You withdrew his gaze.

After they disappeared into the woods, Xia Lanyue's eyes were filled with tears.

Butler Zhang and his men quickly found Xia Lanyue.

Cuihong stepped forward and grabbed Xia Lanyue, "Miss, are you alright? You scared me to death! You just had a miscarriage, how could you run around like this?"

"Keep searching and find Dai You. You know what to do," Steward Zhang instructed his servants.

Xia Lanyue understood the meaning behind Steward Zhang's words and stretched out her arm to block the servants who were about to leave, saying, "No one is allowed to go."

“Miss, I can handle this. You’re not feeling well, so you should go back and rest early,” Butler Zhang said, giving a wink to the head servant. The servants then bypassed Xia Lanyue and chased after her.

"Hey, you can't go," Xia Lanyue tried to stop them, but Xia Yao grabbed her and pulled her into his arms.

Xia Yao stared at Xia Lanyue. "What did she mean by what she just said?"

Cuihong was taken aback, only then realizing that she had said the wrong thing in her haste. She quickly tried to make amends, "That's not what I meant..." but she stammered and couldn't explain anything.

"That's what you heard, didn't you hear it clearly?" Xia Lanyue steadied herself, pushed Xia Yao away, "Aren't you satisfied?!" After saying that, she turned and walked in the direction the servants had run away.

Xia Lanyue ran towards the direction of the firelight with all her might, but she found that the spot where the torch was swaying had not moved forward for a long time.

Xia Lanyue had a premonition that they had found Dai You.

Ignoring her aching body, she ran desperately toward the light.

Sure enough, before they even got there, they heard the sounds of clashing weapons and shouts.

Cuihong tried to help her up, but she mistook it for an attempt to stop her and shook off Cuihong's hand.

Xia Yao didn't say anything, just followed behind them.

As Xia Lanyue approached, she saw the scene clearly: they were locked in combat.

Xia Lanyue searched for a familiar figure in the crowd, and soon she saw Dai You.

Dai You was clearly being targeted; the servants were all brandishing knives at him, each move seemingly aimed at killing him.

Xia Lanyue watched in terror. She didn't know what she could do, but she hoped that, for the sake of her status, she could help Dai You escape.

She kept repeating "Don't hurt him" as she ran towards Dai You without thinking.

However, she heard the servants shouting, "The young lady is here, hurry up and get to work!"

Xia Lanyue panicked even more and quickened her pace, running towards Dai You.

They were locked in a fierce battle, so Xia Lanyue had no choice but to circle around to Dai You's side, and then, disregarding her own safety, rushed over to stand in front of Dai You.

But as soon as she rushed over, she saw a gleaming knife coming towards her.

"Ah Yue!" Dai You exclaimed in alarm.
