Chapter 346 Lure the snake out of its hole
Chapter 346 Lure the snake out of its hole
The smell of disinfectant permeated the corridors of Dongfang Hospital.
The red light outside the operating room had long been turned off, and several nurses hurried in and out, pushing medical equipment.
Where are the pregnant women who gave birth prematurely?
A female doctor in a white coat and a blue mask stopped a passing nurse, her voice calm and undisturbed.
The nurse didn't stop walking and casually replied, "Is this the woman who was just brought in? She's in room 301."
The female doctor nodded and turned to walk towards room 301. The door to the ward was ajar; she gently pushed it open, and it was quiet inside.
On the hospital bed by the window, Yan Lan lay there, breathing evenly, as if she had just fallen asleep from exhaustion after giving birth.
A cold glint flashed across the female doctor's eyes. She slowly turned around, her gaze fixed on the crib next to the bedside table.
She slowed her pace and approached step by step.
"Without this child, let's see how you control Qin Shi."
The female doctor muttered vicious words under her breath, then suddenly pulled her hand out of her white coat pocket, revealing a black pistol, its muzzle firmly pointed at the crib.
But just as she reached the bedside, she suddenly stopped, her eyes filled with astonishment.
The crib was completely empty; there wasn't even a trace of a baby, let alone a swaddled infant.
"how is this possible?"
The woman sensed something was wrong and was about to turn around when she suddenly felt a cold touch on the back of her head, as if she had touched a piece of frozen metal.
That's a knife.
"What should I call you? D, or..."
Yan Lan's cold voice came from behind, followed by a sharp scalpel gently slicing past the female doctor's ear.
The string holding her mask was cut, and the mask fell to the ground with a "thud," revealing a young face that looked exactly like Bai Xiaoyu.
But there was no fear in the eyes of that face, only a ruthless cruelty tempered with ice.
The woman called D showed a moment of surprise, but quickly regained her composure. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Yan Lan, who was sitting up on the bed, and her gaze fell on her still protruding belly.
Her pupils suddenly contracted: "You were faking it? You used premature labor to lure me out?"
The groups she recently sent to kill Yan Lan all disappeared without a trace. She had thought Yan Lan was just a parasitic plant that needed to rely on Qin Shi, but she never expected her to be so well hidden.
He thought that her premature birth would give him the opportunity to eliminate her completely amidst the chaos, but instead he fell into her trap.
Yan Lan's hand holding the scalpel was as steady as a rock, and her voice carried a long-suppressed coldness: "I don't know what your relationship with Qin Shi is."
I'm not interested either.
But you shouldn't have, by all accounts, targeted me and the child.
Several waves of pursuit pushed her to her breaking point. Rather than passively hiding, she decided to actively lure the enemy out of their hiding place.
D scoffed: "Just with a scalpel in your hand?"
Before she could finish speaking, a soft "sizzle" was heard, and a strand of hair fell to the ground near her ear as the tip of the knife grazed her ear.
Just then, with a "click," the door was pushed open, and Han Yan walked in carrying warm water. Upon seeing the scene in the room, she saw Yan Lan holding a scalpel against the back of a "Bai Xiaoyu's" head, and the other person was also holding a gun. Han Yan was immediately terrified and screamed, "Ah!"
The scream broke the standoff between the two.
D reacted extremely quickly, suddenly crouching down and turning the gun around. Yan Lan moved almost simultaneously, flipping her wrist and thrusting the scalpel straight at D's throat.
The room instantly descended into chaos.
D's gun kept searching for an opportunity to fire, but it was firmly suppressed by the scalpel in Yan Lan's hand. The seemingly small knife was as fast as lightning in her hands, and every swing carried a deadly edge.
D tried to pull the trigger several times, but was forced to parry each time by the blade.
"Bah-"
D's hand was slashed open, and the intense pain caused her fingers to loosen, causing the pistol to fall to the ground with a clatter.
D's expression changed drastically, his eyes filled with disbelief.
She was the top assassin in the prison network and never imagined that she would be driven to such a predicament by a "pregnant woman" whose skills were actually superior to hers!
"Help! There's an assassin!" Han Yan finally snapped out of her daze and shouted at the top of her lungs.
Hurried footsteps immediately echoed down the corridor, and Madam Qin and Qin Shengsheng were the first to arrive.
Seeing the mess in the room, they turned pale with fright. Cheng Fei quickly stopped them: "Auntie, Sheng Sheng, it's dangerous here!"
Qin Shi didn't hesitate for a moment, pushing through the crowd and rushing into the room.
The sight before him made his heart stop—Yan Lan's hair was disheveled, sweat beaded on her forehead, and her hand holding the knife trembled slightly, yet she still stared intently at D.
The woman who looked exactly like Bai Xiaoyu had blood streaming down her hand and was glaring at Yan Lan with venomous eyes. Both of them were panting heavily, and the air was thick with tension.
"Lanlan!" Qin Shi's voice trembled almost imperceptibly. His gaze fell on her, and after confirming that she was not injured, he turned to D, his eyes as cold as if they were about to freeze. "You promised me that you wouldn't touch her."
D sneered and suddenly rushed towards the window, trying to break it open and escape.
Yan Lan reacted quickly, throwing the scalpel at her. The blade grazed her arm and embedded itself deeply in the window frame.
Almost simultaneously, Qin Shi rushed over, grabbed D by the back of her collar, and slammed her to the ground.
"Brother, how could she be here? Call the police quickly!" Qin Shengsheng's voice was trembling with tears as she pointed at D, who was being held down on the ground.
The gun that had just fallen to the ground was still gleaming coldly, leaving her with lingering fear.
D was being held by the arm by Qin Shi, but she showed no sign of panic. Instead, she raised her chin, a faint smile playing on her lips, and glanced at the people in the ward with a condescending contempt.
Cheng Fei's hand, holding the phone, froze in mid-air. Hearing Qin Shi say, "Don't call the police," he looked at him in astonishment: "Brother? This is an assassin! You're not going to call the police...?"
"Do as I say." Qin Shi interrupted him, his voice low and heavy, like a stone pressing down on him, and he tightened his grip on D. "Leave here first."
"Qin Shi! Have you gone mad?" Madam Qin trembled with rage, pointing her finger at D's nose. "For her sake, you've even disregarded the safety of Lanlan and the child?"
D chuckled, straining his arm slightly, his tone provocative: "Madam Qin, don't speak so confidently. If it weren't for me, your son wouldn't be standing here alive."
"You're talking nonsense!" Qin Shengsheng also got anxious and rushed forward to push D away.
"Sheng Sheng," Qin Shi called out in a low voice, stopping his sister.
"Wait!" Yan Lan suddenly spoke, her voice not loud, but it made Qin Shi stop in his tracks.
He didn't turn around, his back ramrod straight, as if deliberately avoiding her gaze.
Yan Lan stood up, supported by Han Yan's hand. The heaviness in her abdomen made her frown slightly, but she still looked steadily at D, her eyes sharp as knives: "I have something to ask you."
D raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing her with interest.
“I’m asking about a few years ago,” Yan Lan interrupted her, her speech slowing and each word crystal clear, “who hired the murderer who killed my mother?”
The room fell silent instantly upon hearing this.
Qin Shi's back stiffened abruptly, his fingers tightening involuntarily. Even the playful expression on D's face faded slightly, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes: "Your mother?"
Yan Lan's heart tightened: "You know her?"
D was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed, a somewhat eerie laugh: "More than just acquaintances. She was someone my master specifically ordered to be 'dealt with' back then."
