Chapter 143 Returning to the Void: A Dream Within a Ring (Part 1)
In the darkness, suddenly everything became clear.
"elder brother!"
As the light appeared, the adorable little Luna jumped onto Cain, a smile on her face, and shouted happily.
"Luna." Cain caught Luna as she pounced on him and rubbed his cheek against her fair, tender face.
Upon seeing that familiar figure, even though he knew it was an illusion, Cain was still thrilled, his heart touched by a warm feeling.
He was fully aware that he was already in a dream within a dream. The dream had begun the moment he entered one of the entrances to the towering Tower of Babel, whose top was nowhere in sight. He was currently on the streets of the Coldhearted Family Village, woven from the dream world. His clansmen were passing by him, chatting and laughing, and the whole village was filled with a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
"Brother, let's go out and play today," little Luna said, blinking her big eyes as she sat in Cain's arms, looking at him expectantly.
"Okay, Luna, where would you like to go?" Cain asked gently with a smile. Feeling the real weight and touch of his arm, he couldn't help but marvel at the wonder of Zhuangzi's dream.
He didn't know what the Dream in the Ring was like, and he still hadn't found the exit. This dream was not simple, so he decided to follow Luna and see if he could find any clues.
"Great, brother, let's go!" Little Lu cheered excitedly, jumped down from Cain's arms, grabbed Cain's big hand, and ran towards the village entrance.
Leaving the village, crossing Lake Avon, bidding farewell to their lovers of fire and wind, and boat and river, they began their journey.
As they passed through forests and crossed mountains, nature welcomed them in tranquility.
The wind caressed them, deer followed affectionately behind them, birds sang for them, the masters of nature directed the forest's quiet symphony, and countless swords forged cleared away boulders and thorns for them. All things treated the two with kindness.
Passing by the magnificent Sunset Temple, one sees the purple-haired goddess standing alone atop the spire, majestic and sacred, with the shattered twelve stars suspended in mid-air behind her. Even amidst the desolation and ruin, one can still feel the presence of glory, dazzling and radiant, inspiring awe at this sublime being, filling one's heart with devout faith, and prompting prayers for divine protection.
I also saw the battle between the Golden Knight King and the Dark Knight in front of the temple. The two held shields and wielded longswords, evenly matched. On one side was the justice of the light and ideals, and on the other was the darkness that devoured people's souls.
Having passed through the sea city, which has been transformed into a sci-fi steel metropolis, where the buildings and people are all gray, their expressions numb as they go about their work, a twin-tailed girl with ever-changing rainbow-colored hair moves through the city, bringing a touch of color to the city.
I watched the sun rise in the east and set in the west.
Luna and Cain strolled leisurely past the various scenes, quietly observing as if they were watching a series of plays.
They were enjoying their time together.
"With my brother by my side, Luna is truly the happiest person in the world. I love my brother the most!" Little Luna said happily, looking at Cain. Her bright eyes sparkled with affection.
"With Luna by my side, brother is the happiest person in the world." Cain couldn't help but smile and gently rubbed his little head.
"Then we'll be together forever. When I grow up, I want to marry my brother and be his bride!" Hearing Cain's answer, Luna hugged him even more happily.
"Luna, although I'm happy, this is just your familial affection, don't confuse it with romantic love." Cain's heart skipped a beat, but he then smiled helplessly.
Cain took Luna's words as a joke and laughed it off, believing it to be Luna's expression of love for her family.
"Brother, we've had enough fun today, let's go home together." Luna took Cain's hand as she looked at the sun slowly setting in the west.
"Time's up..."
Cain said with a sigh, looking at the setting sun in the west. He saw the "door" there, the exit, the exit to reality. It was time to wake up from the dream.
"Although it was a dream, Luna, please remember that your brother will always love you, and I will come back to find you soon."
Cain took a deep breath, hugged Luna tightly, then turned around, suppressing the turbulent emotions in his heart, and left without looking back in the direction of the sun.
"Brother, what are you saying? Let's go home together, Mom and Dad are waiting for us..." Luna looked at Cain, who had turned around, in confusion.
"..." Cain did not answer, but walked straight towards the dazzling sun. The sunset glow was red, which looked extremely beautiful. The scorching sun seemed to be about to fall to the earth and burn everything. The heat was overwhelming.
"Brother, where are you going?" Luna's voice came from behind Cain.
"..." Cain remained silent, only knowing to move forward, letting the sunlight fill his eyes.
He knew it was a dream, and his heart ached—the pain of parting, the pain of longing. He didn't want to be separated from Luna, and he wanted to keep watching her. The Luna in his dream was a product of his longing, another kind of reality. But dreams always end, because in reality, Luna was still waiting for his return. How could he wallow in a dream?
The dream within the ring is indeed dangerous yet wonderful. It has nothing to do with whether you can see through the illusion or not. It is a test of will. Without a strong will, even if you know it is a dream, you will probably willingly indulge in it and be unable to extricate yourself.
Cain was filled with admiration.
"Brother, wait for me!" Luna's anxious cry reached Cain's ears.
"..." The sun's radiance gradually enveloped Cain as he approached, golden light covering his body, while white light slowly swallowed his form.
Luna, your brother will be back soon. Please wait for me at home.
The blinding light already dazzled Cain, but Luna's voice only strengthened his resolve.
"Brother, why did you break your promise? Don't leave me, don't leave Luna!" Luna's crying voice came from behind.
“…Goodbye.” Cain paused for a moment as he stepped into the sun, and said.
"Brother... Brother..." Luna's murmured voice faded into the distance.
……
"The Dream Tour is a reflection of oneself..." Zhuang Zhou's half-asleep voice reached everyone's ears. This was the award ceremony for the winner of the Dream Tour.
A peculiar giant gate stands in the center of this circular plaza, with Zhuang Zhou riding an enormous Kun fish floating beside it.
"Therefore, we cannot understand the process of the game, we can only look at the result..." Zhuang Zhou said, resting his chin on his hand.
"The contestants who pass the test will start from..." His voice suddenly became somewhat unclear as he said this.
"Where do they come from?" Zhang Taixian asked nervously. Half an hour had passed, but not a single contestant had come out yet.
"I can't understand what Master Zhuang Zhou is saying at all..." Sun Bin said helplessly.
"They're out!" Meng Ya seemed to have noticed something amiss, and he suddenly shouted loudly.
