Chapter 389 Detention
Chapter 389 Detention
After a long silence, Howard opened his mouth and smiled.
He can continue to deceive, hide and lie, but what's the point?
Isabella's body was still hanging out there, and he thought he could change anything.
He delivered Freya's things and her words, and he was tired.
So Howard raised his hands to Hall:
"I don't want to explain, just detain me."
So Hall grabbed his hands and opened the door to the makeshift interrogation room.
There was a group of people standing outside. In addition to Alexandra and Neville, there were some boys and girls around their age, probably children of this family.
Taylor was not among this group.
Several Astra Militarum troops were controlling the scene, mortal auxiliaries assisting the Space Marines. The arrival of these two Space Marines had required mortals to pilot the spacecraft and to stay behind, and now that these disturbances had occurred, they had been deployed to maintain order at the scene and assist in the investigation.
"Keep him in custody for the time being, pending further questioning."
A pair of handcuffs were put on Howard's hands, and he was led by two Astra Militarum soldiers and a servant of the Gunther family to the room where he was imprisoned. His nature was rather special, involving chaos or unknown threats, so it was not easy to hand him over directly to the Ministry of Justice. Instead, he was temporarily detained by the Gunther family to cooperate with further investigations by the subsequent regiment.
Alexandra wanted to say something, but she knew that speaking up for Howard at this time would only have a counterproductive effect, so she held back.
Neville continued to stare at Howard with undisguised hatred and hostility. If looks could kill, Howard would have died several times under the gaze of this child.
After temporarily dealing with Howard, Hall looked at Neville and Alexandra and said:
"Both Gunthers, please come in and be questioned."
Neville and Alexandra looked at each other and walked into the temporary interrogation room one after another.
The first person to be questioned was Alexandra. He was not searched like Howard, not only because he was a child of the Gunther family, but also because his identity in this incident was different from Howard's. If Howard was a suspect, he should be considered a witness or bystander, and Hall had no reason to search the witness.
Besides, the dead girl was his sister, so he should not be classified as a suspect in any way.
After sitting down, before Hall could say anything, Alexandra spoke first: "Lord Astarte, may I see your hand?"
After hesitating for a moment, Hall stretched out his hands.
There was still coagulated blood and brain matter between the knuckles of his left hand, which came from the girl whose head he had crushed, the sister of the man in front of him.
"I deeply regret what happened just now," Hall said. "But in order to prevent the situation from getting worse and to save more people, I had no choice but to do that."
Alexandra nodded repeatedly to show her understanding, but as she nodded, big tears still fell.
So Hall stood up and washed his hands at the sink, giving Alexandra time to regain control of her emotions. When he sat back in his seat, the young man had stopped crying, except for his still red and swollen eyes.
Hall: "The man just now was called Howard. Did you know him before?"
Alexandra shook her head: "Today is the first time I've seen him."
So Hall continued to ask: "If this is the first time you met him today, why did Lord Taylor and you treat him with such respect? Why did you even let you accompany him in person?"
Alexandra knew this was a life-or-death question. After a moment's thought, he replied, "Yes...my father personally introduced him to me and told me he was a distinguished guest of the Gunther family, so I was the one to entertain him."
It is undoubtedly wise to throw the problem to Taylor at this time. He cannot be considered to be lying, and Taylor can obviously handle this difficult problem more easily.
Hall agreed with this answer and then asked, "Your brother said he was the murderer. What do you think about this?"
"He has been by my side ever since my father introduced him to me. He had no opportunity nor motive to harm Isabella... And as you can see, Isabella's condition is very strange. I have no reason to suspect that he is related to what happened to Isabella."
A reasonable answer.
Hall nodded slightly. He didn't find anything abnormal in Alexandra's heart rate or breathing, so the interrogation of this sad man ended there.
After Alexandra passed the interrogation, Hall began to interrogate Neville.
Neville's identity in this incident is the most special. If Howard is the defendant and Alexandra is the witness, then the teenager who firmly identified Howard from the beginning is the plaintiff.
"Neville, you said Howard was the murderer. What do you want to identify?" Hall asked.
Alexander on the side looked at his brother, waiting for his next speech.
Neville's answer was still very firm: "That's the man! I'm absolutely sure that he was the one who killed Isabella. Even if he didn't do it himself, Isabella...Isabella's death is also related to him!"
Alexandra turned her face away. At this point, this guy still didn't understand the situation, so no one could save him.
"Why do you make such a judgment?" Hall asked.
"Because he is a servant of the devil!"
This statement was enough to make any Imperial citizen's heart stop for half a second, but Hall remained unmoved. He asked, "Where's the evidence? I just checked that Imperial citizen, and there's no trace of Chaos on him. I need you to provide further proof."
Alexandra's heart rate was higher than during the interrogation. This guy is so stupid.
ten minutes later
The door of the interrogation room opened again, and the first person to come out was Alexandra, followed by Neville.
"Detain him temporarily as well." Hall handed Neville over to a Star Army soldier on standby.
Gunther was so determined to accuse Howard, but he couldn't produce any substantial evidence. However, Hall would not simply think that this was a misunderstanding or a false accusation. At present, both Howard and Neville had problems.
After controlling the two most suspicious individuals, Hall gave further orders:
"Screen all visitors for Chaos Marks or forbidden items. Especially check for things like letters or information storage devices. Intercept any that appear even slightly unusual. Repatriate the rest, and evacuate any unnecessary personnel."
Howard and Neville were imprisoned one after another, and with Isabella's death, Alexandra's face was already filled with gloom.
He grabbed a descendant of the Gunther family and asked with gritted teeth:
"Where's Todd?"
